Torn Label Brewing Company

I would be lying if I said that these field trips to local Kansas City micro breweries were  lame and boring. I can’t even tell you how incredibly stoked I am about visiting the Torn Label Brewing Company! I mean, seriously – just check out their website!

When Marsha and I cooked up this amazing craft brew candle concept that paid honor and homage to some of the best micro breweries and microbrews out there, we didn’t even plan on scent matching a few of our esteemed local brew places.

Torn Label Brewing Company of Kansas City comes from the adventurous and daring minds of 4 craft beer lovers. In 2014, Rafi Chaundry, Travis Moore, Carol and Chad Troutwine took their lifelong dream to the next level and opened Torn Label Brewing Company in downtown Kansas City, MO.  They took much influence from the diverse craft brew scenes of SoCal, Chi-Town, Belgium and beyond. They combined this abundance of knowledge and experience and peppered it with some “midwestern sensibility that values both approachability and experimentation”.

Craft Brewery Field Trips are the BEST

We have yet to actually visit this fine establishment to offer up our accumulative personal experiences but plan to share our opinions after we visit, sample and sniff as many craft brews as we can! Our ultimate goal will be to identify a favorite and then share it through one of our amazing craft brew candles!

A few of the Torn Label brews I am DYING to sniff (and sip):

• Bloody Christmas – Blood Orange Belgian Stout. Rich notes of roasted malt, citrus, and subtle spice.
• Long Time Comin’ – Dark and Seductive. A big bold stout full of dark fruit, roast, and a rich full body.
• Oscar – Clean crisp lager. A perfectly sessionable and clean yet flavorful fall lager, with floral, lemongrass aromatics. (YUM)

Sample Some Local Craft Beer? Please & Thank-You!

Craft Beer Candle inspired by The Big Rip

It just seemed like the next obvious move for us. Team-up with a local Kansas City Brewery and sniff-out some local brew for our next craft beer scented candle! What a perfect way to showcase some of our amazing, local Microbreweries and sample a few brews!

The Big Rip Brewery, North Kansas City

I am particularly excited about this field trip because North Kansas City was my stomping ground back in 2005. My daughter and I lived in a house in what North Kansas Citians refer to as “the row houses.” My husband and I would walk around North Kansas City’s small downtown area and sample the local eateries and shop the quaint small businesses that lined the street. When we discovered The Big Rip brewery, you can imagine our delight!

The Big Rip is a self-proclaimed small brewery but in our opinion, extremely mighty. Their claim-to-fame is their ever changing selection of specialty craft brews. They suggest to stop by often to sample their eclectic selection.

If you have never visited The Big Rip of North Kansas City, check them out on Friday from 12-5 for their 5 Hour Happy Hour and take advantage of their $1 off select craft brews.

Sampling for the Perfect Big Rip Craft Candle Scent

My team and I will be heading to The Big Rip this coming Wednesday to sniff out a favorite craft brew to add to our ever expanding of craft beer candles. This could prove to be a difficult task as their CURRENT craft beer selection boasts some of my favorite flavors. (The Priest Mint Chocolate Milk Stout in particularly.)

Hopefully by next week we will be announcing our very first LOCAL craft brew candle supporting the label of The Big Rip! As always, we will be combining our creative juices to come up with the perfect custom brew name and label for this brew candle!

Screaming Vixen – Agave Hazelnut Brown Ale Scented Candle

If you didn’t know this already, each and every one of our craft beer scented candles are as original as their blend and label. Coming up with our beer candle names was actually pretty easy but for a couple, the creative process took a little bit longer.

So what the heck is a Screaming Vixen?

Screaming Vixen was the final candle to make up our core 6-pack. By the time Marsha had finished developing her amazing beer scents and I had already custom designed 5 of the beer labels, my creative juices were starting to fade. Then the strangest thing happened.

I had headed to bed early. Brandon, my husband and craft beer enthusiast, was out in the living room watching Fear the Walking Dead. By the time Brandon had busted through the door of our bedroom, I was dead asleep and NOT amused by his frantic entrance.

Before he could even open the door completely he says, “Did you hear that?”

I am like, “Ah no, I am sleeping.”

Then he rushes to the French doors that open up to the deck and locks them. He whips around and whispers, “Come out here and listen!”

I couldn’t decide if he was being serious or not, so I completely ignore him. Not 30 seconds later, he is shaking my arm and pulling me out of the bed.

“OK, fine! Just go, I’ll be out in a minute!” I whisper in my angry whisper voice. I get to the kitchen, where he has the sliding glass window completely open. He has his shushing finger over his mouth and mouthing, “Be quiet….listen.”

I listen. I am also glaring at him. Then….

“Woooooooooooooowwwwwww!”

“What the hell what that??” I mouth loudly. I was fairly certain that whatever was outside in the woods surrounding our home was going to kill us. If I were to try to describe what I heard that night, I would say it sounded like a raspy woman’s voice screaming “wow,” over and over again.

After listening to this craziness for probably 2 minutes, I went back to the bedroom and “googled” something like, “loud raspy woman voice screaming wow in the forest.”

The first thing that came up was this.

I know, right? Crazy!!!!

Brandon comes flying down the hall whisper screaming, “It’s closer!!!”

I snickered and showed him the video you see above.

He says, “Turn that off now! You are answering the call! It will be up here any minute now!”

So, there you have it. This is how I came up with the name, “Screaming Vixen” for our Agave Hazelnut Brown Ale scented candle.
